Taprobane Island is a tiny, private island set just off the shore of Weligama Bay. Crowned with a beautiful colonial-style villa surrounded by tropical gardens, it’s one of the most unique and luxurious landmarks on Sri Lanka’s southern coast. The island is accessible by foot during low tide via a sandy causeway, or by wading through shallow waters — which adds to its charm.

The villa, originally built in the 1920s by a French count, has hosted royalty, celebrities, and writers over the decades.
